I remembered that I attended one of the key note during Hack In the Box 2008 in Kuala Lumpur titled Cyberwar is Bullshit.

After malware researchers discovered Stuxnet, the title is now become a question. Why?

Stuxnet known to be a crafted targeted-attack that up to I/O or Programing Logic Controller (PLC) level.

My 3 years laptop has now started to make problem. Code 43 Error. Believe to be the 8400M GS graphic card driver. Make it worst because related to the BIOS update.

Still can be used but using external monitor with low res and misaligned pixels.

Was sent to operation theater table.

(I guess no descriptions required for the photos right?)

Since it's an old laptop, decided to convert it to become a server; webserver, downloader/leecher, part of honeynet, etc.

Found out that Windows 7 Remote Desktop is AWESOME!

If you could help me fix the BIOS and Driver problems without formatting the OS, do let me know. I'm happy for it.

LAMP - Linux Apache MySQL PHP

Hello,

I'm quite free today, not on-call as other weekends.

This is what I did over the afternoon, setting up LAMP without using bulb but emits bright light in the internet for decades. LAMP that I meant is Linux-Apahce-MySQL-PHP. The P can also be Perl or my number one scripting language Python. For this, PHP is generally being used.

As you know, I'm a n00b penguin. I have this old Ubuntu box which I kept for ages.

I'm going to share on how to install AMP on the L box by using Terminal or for Windows literate it's similar to command prompt or console. This n00b tutorial is from my notes when I study in University but I edit a bit to fit today's updates..

sudo apt-get update

This is to update your system update repository list. (for ubuntu that is damn old like mine)

sudo apt-get install apache2

That is installation of apache2.

To test this, kindly use your web browser (i.e. FireFox) and go to http://localhost

You should get this page that show something like this.

By default it will show the page located at /var/www/index.html

It is configured from apache2 httpd configuration file. Lets proceed to next and keep this later.

PHP - Personal Home Page. No! That what I thought when I first heard about it in school. The meaning is Hypertext Preprocessor.

We will be using php5 since at php6 is in development stage. Install php5 module for apache2 too

sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5

Let's create the first php file and test it. The file will be the info related to php.

sudo nano /var/www/my.php

Write:

<?php phpinfo();?>

Then, restart apache2 service (daemon) since we just installed php on top of default apahce2 installation.

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Then, go to http://localhost/my.php

Lastly, the tedious part, installing MySQL server.

sudo apt-get install mysql-server

This may take awhile since the package is quite big, depending on your internet connection speed.

You will asked to key in your root password

Then get php5-mysql module.

sudo apt-get install php5-mysql

Then access the mysql server

mysql -u root -p

(on the mysql session, with 'mysql>' on the beginning of the new line)

Done.

Dental tu memang best, tempat dier bersih dan pengalaman berada di situ menenangkan.

Kini, Ice Cream Sundae McD jadi kegemaran. Kawasan lopong kat gigi belakang. Dentist kata ambil masa 4-6 minggu utk gusi tumbuh balik.

Amat mengejutkan apabila nama Alex disebut bagi tempat ke-3. Bagi aku segalanya sudah tidak bermakna. Maklumlah, aku peminat Alex.

Tetapi aku akur dengan keputusan tersebut disebabkan keputusan adalah bergantung kepada jumlah undian SMS.

Ingin aku membuat hypothesis, yang mana apabila peserta berkumpulan digandingkan dengan peserta individu (solo). Advantage lebih kepada berkumpulan kerana melibatkan "keluarga" yang lebih daripada solo. Ini memudahkan peserta berkumpulan untuk menyaingi peserta solo. Contoh, Sepah, dan sekarang Kecik.

Oleh itu, keputusan Raja Lawak musim ke 4 yang aku follow dari awal hingga ke penghabisan, memang di luar jangkaan aku kerna keputusan bergantung kepada undian.

Apapun itu keputusan dari Raja Lawak, Johan dan Zizan pun bukan juara dulu tapi dier buat kita gelak dan menghiburkan. Alex dan Idlan ada pakej untuk jadi seperti senior mereka.

Out of my boredom, I installed TurboGears 2.0, to check out Kevin Dangoor artwork.

Nothing else I can say, he contributed lots of help to the world of Web Applications. You are the man KD!

I'm excited as I made it running.TG also using Model-View-Controller paradigm or MVC model. Ruby using something similar too.

One day if I have the money to buy a web hosting server, I will deploy this for good. Especially in replacing this blog :)

For my first time, I took about 20 minutes to set this up from stretch. Basically I just followed the tutorial that I found by Google.com.

Little Big Soldier

It is a Chinese movie, so I rely on the english/malay subtitle. Somehow there were parts where I laugh a bit fast and other people laughing without me knowing why.

Yeah, Jackie Chan attracts me for this movie. :)

The comedy is good, action is superb. Story line and script is a bit off for me.

It's quite a boring movie if you don't have the idea of the movie. Like what happened to me :p

It is a story when books were burned off from the earth. The book that Eli carry is the last of it's kind.

Learn Keyboard (Series 1 - Noob)

Day one of my week off.

I had a long lost planned to give a kick-start on playing keyboard. My last time attending music was during my elementary school. It's like one and a half decade ago.

I learnt beginner guitar (acoustic and electric) before, somehow I found that I'm not good with strings.

This all started when my little brother lean me his keyboard since my dad bought him an electric piano.

Yesterday, I spend about 2 hours intensively discovering on how to play keyboard. This is not computer keyboard, it's a music type keyboard.

Just remember how to find the C note from the line of keys then everything going to be alright. Unlike me finding characters on Finnish keyboard, not used to it.

My teacher is Maurice Ellis, found him from YouTube.com. He has a website, chordmusic.net. I don't have direct contact to him, just follow his videos and writings.

He shared ultimate formula for piano/keyboard that I will remember forever.

This is the video that reveal the secret :)

I believe he delivered basic idea on playing keyboard/piano nicely with the formula. I take his words, "The easiest way to learn Chords, Keys and Scales In hours, not months, using very simple formulas."

This is one of my favorite songs. The other Metallica song that I like is One. It's one of the song in Guitar Heroes 3.Now I realized that I'm a Metalica Fan. The songs are meaningful to me, although it's Rock genre.

I admitted that I had been busy with work since I moved to this new place. I missed some of my friends wedding invitations. Sorry to my friends whom I missed their special day. I'm working more hours as a way to earn more resource - money.

My principe is never to work for money. This does not mean that I will work for free. It means that I never focus on working for money. I also believe that if someone works for something, that thing he/she will get. Then if someone works for money, then money is what he/she will get.

I even don't give much effort to ask for more compensation of work I been doing. I work or contribute my energy and focus for experience and developing trust by helping other who need help which the main asset in life. This could be a reflect on the way my parents rose me up.

Before I end today's blog, I want to share another quote, this one I found just now in Jusco. "Mind is like a parachute, it works best when it's opened".

Let's open up our mind and make today better than yesterday and tomorrow better than today.

I came across PDFjoin.com website when following Nick Gonzalez twits (Nickgon). He is the creator of Checkfacebook.com. I used his statistical data for my short analysis on Facebook usage in Malaysia. (here)

PDFjoin is a free web application that offer users to join two or more PDF files online with maximum file size of 15MB.

Recently, I have been using DidierStevens PDF tools, written in Python. His scripts is really intensive in manipulating PDF file. I'm interested with his token technique in parsing PDF file as it is my reference in recalling my old memories on Compiler and Translator subject.

I strongly believe that PDF as the meaning Portable Document Format, is very useful format. It's robust and supported by multiple platform. Even my E71 has adobe reader.

This is also why it has been used by virus writers for their own good.

For me, to practice Nestlé-free zone in my house and my food consumption, it's do-able but somehow Nestle products are everywhere in the grocery shelves, from milk to yogurt drinks, chocolates to coffees. I will give a try :) But first, I don't have any idea on what product available in the market to replace the existing Nestlé products.

Breastfeeding is still the best if the mother has the reservoir. Mother's milk is the best, why not giving infant the best? I knew my mom gave me till I'm about 2 years old. (can't remember this fact correctly, but I breastfed for quite long).

Alright, I can't say much about this, since my breasts don't produce milk. I rest this case to you guys to ponder about this. I know you would go for the best for your baby and yourself with the same price your paying.

As a matter of fact, Nestlé would know about this matter and circumvent the problem so that they would get back their customers.

Thank God, after taking a week off just to "study" for the exam end of last year (previous blog), I passed the exam. Thanks to my new RA friend, 9w2pju for the supports and also Feisal and Alia for being my study partners. They passed too! (Party?)

The result was posted to my parent's house. I got this info from my dad as I asked him to open and read the letter for me. I also double confirm it from http://rae.skmm.gov.my/ too.

Now I'm gonna get basic radio apparatus and callsign :)

Coffee and Me

Ever since I started back working on night shift and also combo shifts, I have started to take coffee, varieties of coffee. I like coffee with caramels. At Starbucks, it would be the Caramels Machiato.

There also was one time where me and my friends were looking for Starbucks in Kuala Lumpur at 130am in the morning. We did not find any. Ended up we brew our own coffee :)

Coffee sometimes make me head-ache, but it's really giving me a wake-up jab! For sake to get myself awake, I sacrifice it.

I spent hundreds of ringgit (almost thousand) for good coffees. I prefer hot coffee than ice-blended.

I believe on paying back sleeping hours, it's for cell recovery.

I just awake from recovery sleep after a week of 16 hours/daily on stand-by and work. By the way, this morning I was at Bandar Tun Razak witnessed my friend's wedding :)

Feel a bit fresh now after the afternoon sleep. Just 5 minutes ago, I thinking of making home-made "Starbucks" coffee. I google for it. And found this.

Starbucks Marble Mocha Macchiato

Ingredients
- 8 ounces milk
- 2 tablespoons white chocolate syrup
- 1 fluid ounce brewed espresso
- 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup (Hersheys)

Directions
1. Steam milk until it reaches 145 degrees F. (This is about 66C)
2. Pour white chocolate syrup into bottom of a coffee mug, followed by freshly brewed espresso.
3. Pour in steamed milk.
4. Top with Hershey's syrup.
5. Stir.
6. Enjoy!

Connect to Internet using Mobile Phone

I have been missing broadband connection at home. There are a lots of Wireless Broadband offers in the market, but I don't want to stick with their 12-months or so contract. Although my friends recommended me few, but still I prefer the wired broadband.

So far the best Wireless Broadband performance I have seen was Digi. At my area, it could streaming YouTube video smoothly.

P1 is too expensive for me, and the plan did not attract me at all.

My cousin recommended me Celcom, since it does not binded user with the contact, just that you will have to buy your own modem.

Anyway, I would still want Streamyx. Although it has bad reputation lately due to their services but I prefer land line. *Unlimited data*. User will have more freedom over the internet like setting up servers using dynamic dns services like dyndns.org; sucking data on the internet; live video like CCTV services and remain online 24/7 with reasonable price.

Hope other broadbands could loosen the data cap since 3GB is not enough for monthly usage for the price of RM60 to RM90. They should come out with better plan and cost saving. Probably this is the game played by the Telcos to gain profit at this time being.

I used to subscribe the unlimited data plan for Maxis corporate line for RM99/month. It was the time when I love to play around with mobile application. Few months ago, I terminated it since I did not use it much anymore because I kept on losing connection during surfing. If I'm not mistaken that plan has been changed to something else.

Anyway, now I'm re-subscribing it back on my personal Maxis line, but it is RM88/month with 3GB. Good thing about this, I'm not binded with any contract. I'm using it as temporary broadband while getting my Streamyx.

I had talk too much about my broadband experience, let me share on how to Connect to Internet using your Mobile Phone. By the way, I'm using Nokia phone. Option 1 will be using the Nokia PC Suite, wherelse Option 2 will be using "manual" way that I received from Maxis customer support years ago.

Option 1: Nokia PC Suite (current version for my N95 is 7.1.30.9)

0. Make sure you have installed Nokia PC Suite and it's connected to your machine using cable, bluetooh, or infra-red connections

1. Open Nokia PC Suite. Cursor on the top right logo - "Connect to the Internet" and click it.

2. One Touch Access window will appear. Click on the crank looking icon, for the configurations.

3. Select your Mobile Phone as the modem then select your telco (in my case is Maxis Malaysia). There are Celcome Malaysia and Digi Malaysia too. Then, press the right button.

4. Press the connect button. It will connect you to the internet. Done.

* If you having some problem, probably misconfiguration happened. Please check step 1-4. If still persist, ensure that your phone is not lock. Try to reboot your handphone too. If those points not met, please consult with Nokia :) or google for the problem and find the solution.

Option 2: Creating your Mobile Phone as modem and connect to the Internet

*The example is on windows platform, diagrams are on Windows 7 OS. It should work on other OS platforms if you configure the same thing.

0. Please ensure that your phone has been installed (or recognized) by your computer; by any means cable, bluetooth or infrared connections.

1. Setting up modem. Control Panel > Phone and Modem

2. Select your Mobile Phone that to be the Modem, then go to its Properties

3. For Windows 7 or Vista, On the Properties tab, press Change Setting (because some setting need to be changed)

4. Go to Diagnostics tab, and press on Query Modem. This is to get the response from the modem. Make sure it has responsed successfully.

5. Go to Advanced tab, on the Extra initialization commands field, inset this string: at+cdgcont=1,"ip","unet"

6. Then press OKs to confirm your modem settings.

7. Next, is to create a new Network Connection. Go to Control Panel (again) > Network and Sharing Center (for Win7). Then follow the steps on the snapshots below:

- Dial up number is *99#
- Username is maxis
- Password is wap

9. Done.

Last Thursday, on a busy-ness (not business) week with works and moving hassles, I took a half day off to attend MMU Alumni event at Cyberjaya. It was a talk delivered by Dato' Sri Shazalli Ramly, CEO of Celcom Axiata Bhd on the title "Secret of Great Leaders". It was my first time to know him and meet him. This man with long hair has great business background; he was the CEO of NTV7, and other gigantic companies. More detail here .

The talk was really resplendent with the presence of MMU Cancellor, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali... my yearn cured since my 2007 convocation, somehow now i'm missing her again.... Her Excellency introduce me to a new friend, Zuhdi.

Despite that it was attended by the Chairman and Director of Telekom Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Halim Shafie. I had a few minutes chat with him; I felt his friendliness and humbleness in corroboration on Malaysia's IT Security.

The speaker grabbed the audience thoughout the 90 minutes and that splendid talk revealed 7 points about Brand Leader.
- cannot be imitated by other brands
- Good CORE values
- simple, easy to understand
- deceisive
- very strong passion
- creativity and innovative
- Great Leader: Continuous engage, develop and groom talents for next generation

Example of good brand leader given was Coca-Cola (soft drink), Colgate (tooth paste) and Marlboro (cigaratte).

Spec-O, Spectacle without Milk

Crystal clear; commonly heard when describing clarity of sound. What about new prescription glasses for people with eye sight problem. Like me.

The company that I'm working with has optical benefit for their employees with eye sight problems. Thus, it's time for me to use it for new lens and spectacle.

I'm not fussy in fashion, I even got my spec's frame to be the same as my dad's. But this time I want to try, Oakley. I had heard good reviews about this specs, Feisal and Azri said the same thing. Anyway, for mid-class people, the price is quite expensive ; this reflects to the name, it's durability and after sales service.

Since I have used my specs for about 2 1/2 years, now it's time to change, and it's 2010!

One of the days in the end of 2009, I went to Midvalley Megamall to check out the prices and offers for Oakley prescription specs. Not bad, there were sales everywhere, roughly about 10 to 15%; just for the frame. It was just a window shopping. Went empty hand, return empty hand too.

Then I had recommendation from Feisal for a shop in Bangsar. (Feisal has good skills and experience in buying gadgets and cool stuffs). Did eye test, thank God it did not increase.

I tried few specs including Tag Heuer of which the rubber made from F1 tires. After testing few specs and Bargains, I bought an Oakley Prescription Spectacles with a lens I never thought of... Carl Zeiss lens.....

It's expensive; but thanks for the optical benefit. I'm wearing good spectacle.

New eyes support. Sculpt 4.0 pewter.

Today, I am happy with my new specs, the clarity is better, rubber grip of the spec is better, the frame is tougher.

Again, enough with Oakley, one thing I can't believe is Carl Zeiss lens. It's much clearer than my old lens. For your information, Carl Zeiss lens has trademark, laser mark-symbol 'Z'.

That's for people with eye sight problem, need to spend extra on vision support. You should take good care of your eyes. Spec-Oakley is not the solution.

New Year with Good Year

My MyVi is about a year old and had traveled about 25,000km. It had consumed about 1400 liters of petrol and I had spent about RM2500.

Today I checked my tyres. Front wheels were badly worn on outer sides, could be (last time) I like to take fast corners; and MyVi is front wheel drive. Rear wheels are still in good condition. I decided to change my front wheels.

This is how my car looks like when it has no tyres. I never wanted to see this non-wheeled car of mine on the street lifted by bricks. Anyway, I found out that my front absorbers were leaking. Duh! I put that in K.I.V. because I'm nearly to poor-border; too much expenses for last 2 months and expecting more expenses to come until I shift to my new place.

Whatever it is, safety on the road is utmost important. One of it is to have good tyres.

So, have you check your vehicle tyres?

I am preparing to move. I was surprised to see my collections... of information. Those are only some my IT books (exclude the WoW Programming Book! it's for Lua Programming but it's not mine) that I had collected since end of 2008 till today. My engineering books are in the dark webby store room. Despite that I also collecting self-help and motivational, religious, general science and medical books.

I love books! I love them very much!

During my retirement I want a library in my house

When I looked at these pile of books, I started to like e-books. Although e-books are weightless but staring at the display monitor is not as enjoying as reading with physical books. But e-books are "free" whereas books can be overrated-ly expen$ive.

I appreciate those authors of the books I have since they have the skill in writing books. I wish I have those skill so that I can trash out what's inside my head; and blog with creative writing too.

Anyway, from the I.T books you probably know what type of books that I spend my time with. I don't read novels.

Welcome 2010

Today is the beginning of 2010 and beginning of a new decade. Time runs fast and it will never stop.

Year 2009 was a quite a tough year for me. I would summarize it as the initial year that I have to change my lifestyle from daddy's boy to become a real man. Early of last year, my wife moved from Singapore and lived with me as a 'housemaker'. My messy room was transformed into a packed and more decent room. By the way, we lived in my parent's house still. Taking new responsibility as a husband and response tasks at work, I learnt about priority. Everyday we will face with situations and it has the priviledge level for it's priorities and again time will never stop; it's like how Operating system works. There were difficult times where I need to choose between family, work and friend. By default it has to be family first.

Major thing that I learnt in 2009 is Money. I have been living with my parents and never separated; thus money was not my real problem. But today, I started to realize that the world is all about Money. People live all because of money. People fight and quarrel because of money. There are people lost someone they love because of money. People would do everything because of money. I've seen the potential of money and it relation towards power. I can write dense description about money, I save it for my future blog.

Last year, KPI (Key Performance Index) was the most interesting method I discovered in measuring one's productivity. All organization I involved in has either started to implement or strenghening their KPI. For me, the method is better than resolution. Thus, I believe it's a good approach for me to apply KPI on myself for starting year 2010.

Last Sunday morning, I was at Media Prima, Bandar Utama as my wife had an invitation in a live broadcast morning talk show on TV9 (or Astro Channel 119), Nasi Lemak Kopi O under beauty segment.

It was my second time to set foot at Sri Pentas after seeking for sponsorship for an event back in my university years.

The show was held in Studio C where other shows by Media Prima being conducted as I saw backdrops of other TV shows.

My wife was given about 10 minutes slot to talk about Swarovski Crystals. I helped on dressing up the new mannequin and setting up the presentation table.

As the camera rolling, without rehearsal and it is live broadcast; with her natural confidence, she delivered her presentation about Swarovski Crystals and how to fashion it. I sat at the back and enjoy the show :)

Something actually happened along the shooting, at one point my wife's microphone was not functioning correctly, so the Director (i guess) gave a microphone. As the director was moving behind the cameras, she flipped. Ouch! But she's okay :) I hope.

At the end of the slot I went back to the common room. At the same time, I received a text message that I have work to do because I was on-call during the weekend. While sitting at the common room, with my on-call gear on, I was able to meet some artists; I met, Andy Flop Poppy, local singer previewing his new album in one of the slot. He's a cool guy.

Renovation in Progress

It has been 4 weeks I had been supervising renovation of my dad's apartment. Lately, I went to the site average every 2 days. The contractor is my ex-schoolmate and also one of my boyscout buddies, Dawamuz.

It is 65% make over of the whole apartment. The current renovation working progress is now 75% done.

Throughout the process, I learnt a lot of new things on construction field. I would say that it's all depending on your budget. So I worked on with the budget that my dad had allocated.

The 1st week, I spent my day time with zombie mode on, selecting the design for the output. That's when I started to study about ID, Interior Design. I did not start from skretch, the contractor/my friend, guided me especially on giving ideas. So the modification in mind was, refurbish the toilet number 2, changing the kitchen cabinet, adding more power points, refurbish the air cond units, polish and wax the floor, and painting the whole apartment.

The main concept, since it a small apartment, it was to make it look spacious and using light and pale colour.

Since I need to work on within the budget, the price at Ikea was chosen as the market price. I wish I would just dump Ikea's showroom to the apartment, but that will not happen!

Due to that, I went to ceramic warehouses to find floor and wall tiles for the toilet and kitchen table top that I want. Choosing kitchen cabinet type of woods. Survey for toilet accessories, like toilet bowl and flushing system, washing basin, water taps and water hose. Survey lighting and fans for wall and ceiling.

Throughout the renovation process, there was some additional requests which were to have the wiring inside the wall. So the wall need to be hexxed. Not only that, joining the washing area with the toilet number 2. Thus renovation period getting longer.

Anyway, up till today the renovation done are:-

a) Kitchen: Changing from melamine kitchen cabinet to concrete table top with dual washing basin and solid wood kitchen cabinet.

Hello,

I went to JCard Day Midvalley at 930am this morning and parked at The Gardens. As I went up to LG floor, I saw one family pushing 3 trollies full of Jusco items. Gosh, they were fast.

As usual, not enough trollies. I had to use the basket.

Unfortunately, the item that I'm gonna buy, power drill, doesn't have discount :( But since every spend of RM100 from any departmental stores except supermarket, entitle 10% cash voucher rebates, I just take it. Same goes to Christian Dior (CD) cosmetic products. For supermarket, rebate is just 5%. So it's better to round up your total purchase to nearest hundred before queuing for cash voucher reimbursement.

My have total of RM55 cash voucher rebates. To cut it short, ALL stuffs I'd targeted to buy don't have discount! :( :(

Italy's Prime Minister punched on his face - Ouch!

Oh My God, Italy's Prime Minister got punched on his face by a ten years mentally-ill man after his ending speech at Milan Rally.

This is really bad. I wonder what would happen to the person who punched him. Grr...

On this 15&16 December 2009,Tuesday and Wednesday, Jusco Midvalley will be having JCard Day. This is the time when Jusco gives the best bargain to their member.

I remembered the first time I went, getting home appliances (as that time I just got married) and also took 2 SIGG bottles together with it accessories with the price that I never imagine, almost dirt-cheap. It did not ended there, free voucher too depending on your expenses.

I will be on leave on both days, not for this, but for my RAE preparation and exam. Anyway, I am planning to go on this Tuesday morning. Never thought of cosmetic yet. Damn, sounds already like a wishlist!

I will seat for RAE this Wednesday (16 Dec 2009) at Shah Alam, Selangor. Need to brush up my electronics skill which I have not practise for nearly 3 years. Your help in the related topics will be appreciated.

The RAE is a written examination on the following topics:

The fundamental theory of electricity, electornics and radiocommunications;
The theory and operation of any amateur radio equipment including the antenna systems, transmission lines, transistors, amplitude and frequence modulation and single sideband techniques
The regulations made under the Act which is applicable to the establishment and operation of a station performing an amateur experimental service; and
The ITU Radio Regulations applicable to the operation of a station performing an amateur experimental service and those provisions relating to the operation of stations generally

The RAE comprises 100 objective questions. Candidates are given three hours to answer all question. No marks are deducted for a wrong answer. Please refer to Part C (Page 22 - 28) for the detail syllabus.

Asri's dream of a politics that is colour blind

His arrest by the Selangor Religious Affairs Department (Jais) last month brought Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin more recognition that his two-year stint as Perlis mufti. SHUHADA ELIS talks to the preacher at his family home in Bukit Mertajam about the incident and his views on politics and the Kelantan menteri besar's doa for the prime minister.

Q: More than a month has passed since you were arrested by the Selangor Religious Affairs Department (Jais) for allegedly promoting the Wahhabi doctrine to supporters. How are you coping? How did it impact your life?
A: Alhamdulillah, this is not a question of cari makan, but when my friends and I aim to preach Islam, we prepare ourselves for the worst of possibilities and challenges. So when I was arrested, I could still smile and joke with reporters. This is not new for me. Preaching Islam is not something I do to gain profit, but this incident had actually promoted my messages of dakwah more than the time when I was a mufti. My two years (of Islamic propagation) in Perlis was not as great, nor as free, a publicity which Jais has given me.

Q: Did you expect to receive such a big wave of support?
A: I am grateful to Allah. Previously, I had many letters, e-mails, people in the street and art groups expressing support for me but I did not know whether they were sincere. But since the incident, I am thankful to them. Also to Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak), (former prime minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, academicians like Prof Dr Chandra Muzaffar and Dr Farish A. Noor, Pas spiritual leader (Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat), (Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, members of parliament including Barisan Nasional backbenchers.

Q: What makes people think you promote Wahhabism?
A: Wahhabi has different connotations. In the West it refers to terrorism, but in the history of Malaya and Indonesia, modernists were accused of being Wahhabis.

Many modernist figures who helped bring independence to Malaya were accused of this. To them (the accusers), Wahhabi had negative connotation, although they did not know what it means.

Nowadays in Malaysia, Wahhabi is used by conservatives or some religious bodies to label those who do not conform. They think I am not of the same teaching. A modernist. But now the groups who are accusing me speak like they are Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah, although before this they belonged to a cult whose beliefs include banning education for their children.

They believed television was haram, so they threw TV sets into the river. But now these groups are in the media, sporting beard and robes, and accusing those who are against them as Wahhabis.

Q: Are you serious about joining politics?
A: Perhaps this issue has made political parties think I should be with them, because my name has been frequently mentioned in the media. Or maybe they think I should join politics because some of the characteristics I have can help bring mileage to their political career. But I think I should not do that (join politics), as long as I can still preach.

Q: Do you think the invitation by political parties is made for their own interests?
A: Maybe they see it that way. They may also feel it is better for me to join them because I am always very vocal in the media. Some parties think my approach can attract youngsters and the non-Muslims and can generate support from the grassroots.

Q: How would you like to see the future political environment in the country?
A: I dream of politics free of party fanatics, a generation that is not loyal to any particular party. I dream of a future where Malaysians hold to discipline, facts and figures, society which evaluates debates and arguments so no political parties will be in power.

The rakyat will always be sensitive to political parties so the latter will not place any Tom, Dick and Harry as candidates. I dream of the rakyat who are colour blind in politics.

If we reach a stage where people choose qualified individuals rather than a party, we will be a mature country. Right now we can see all political parties share the same kind of problems -- cronyism and corruption are rampant.

Q: Do you think the rakyat can be too fanatical about political parties?
A: I see the level of fanaticism is decreasing since the past two years as many similar issues have cropped up in most parties.

Nowadays even the Pas spiritual adviser is criticised by his people. The same goes for Anwar Ibrahim or Umno leaders. I am not asking the supporters to criticise their leaders, but I want them to be rational in every matter.

The rakyat need to realise that political parties are going through a great transformation and they are no longer immune.

Q: What do you think of Nik Aziz's doa against the prime minister if the latter refuses to give oil royalty to Kelantan?
A: This is the problem with religious figures. Those who are pro-Umno claim it is absolutely wrong to pray for another's destruction, while the pro-opposition said it can be done.

This is not right. If we are totally against such doa, it contradicts the hadith, as Prophet Muhammad's companions too had prayed for those who were cruel. However, what we need to ponder is whether the other person fulfils the characteristic of a cruel person?

So if one wants to make a doa, he should not mention the name of the other person clearly and it must come with conditions.

For example, "O Allah, if such and such person is cruel against me, please punish him."

We cannot simply say that this person is cruel and therefore should be punished. I am worried that his cruelty is not evident.

I don't want to take sides but I advise those who want to make such doa to be accurate in their words.

On the other hand, the Federal Government should also look in depth into the oil royalty issue so the rakyat will respect them more, it is not a wasteful effort.

And for ulamas who take this opportunity to ingratiate themselves with political parties, I advise them to give fair arguments and not just defend a particular party because it has given you many awards before.

Q: How do you think the next general election will be?
A: In the 12th general election, a third force had created a wave of support and had determined the outcome.

But some political parties are reality blind. They thought they won the votes because the rakyat liked them and were loyal to them when the truth is the people, especially the younger generation, were tired of the ruling party.

So if these parties still do not realise that they need to buck up, I believe there will be a huge change in the next election. This is because someone who voted for Pas before may not be from Pas, he may be a drunkard or someone who skipped prayers, but he voted the party because he wanted an alternative.

Q: You mentioned about the third party, who are they?
A: Some groups of people do not believe in any political party. The third party is not a new political party, I'm not asking anybody to form new parties.

But what I am saying is that those with fresh ideas will get support from the people. The rakyat will not look at a particular party but they need leaders who are clean, trustworthy, sincere and have new ideas to lead the country.

Q: Would you consider yourself as the third party or an alternative to the people?
A: Well, I don't want to be a political leader or someone who leads a party. I want my ideas to be spread to everyone in this country, so everybody can share my views.

Asri, 38, is now a lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Following his arrest, he was charged at the Gombak Timur Lower Syariah Court with teaching matters related to Islam without certification. He has claimed trial.

File Analysis - Introduction

Today, I would like to share my thought and little knowledge about file analysis. It's generally used by reverse engineers in analyzing Malicious Software (Malware). This is useful in making code optimization, analyzing code for vulnerability and creating cracks! This is the way for you to get your hand on the lowest programming code - machine code.

The level for my sharing will be designed for beginners and people who are not from computer-related field. I'm planning to have the topics (all are basics) as follows:

1. File Editor,
2. File format (esp. win32),
3. Dynamic Analysis - Debugging Win32 files,
4. Static Analysis,
5. Packers and Self-Extractors.

*My OS is Microsoft Windows 32 bit*

One of the important tool for file analysis is a file editor, without it you can't view the binary/hex of the file. Most file editors disassembler which translate the machine code binary into assembly language. For example HT Editor and HIEW.

Let's use Hiew(demo version). After unzip it, execute hiew32demo.exe. A blue console box (which is hiew) will appear and listing all files and folders of the current working folder. For sake of this example, choose the files itself, hiew32demo.exe (the file).

So now you should have the picture how file looks like. It's just machine codes in Hex which not easily readable by human. With the help of file editor it will turn into human readable forms.

Pause WoWing (World of Warcraft)

I devoted my time (at least 3 hours a day) and mind to my favorite one and only RPG game, World of Warcraft. Throughout those time, I found it hard to control my "gaming-lust".

WoW with +tab> for extra flexibility

I found it nice to play it in window mode, where I can easily switch between processes, Web Browser (be.imba.hu, wowwiki.org) <--> WoW. My fantasy with the WORLD of Warcraft was an ecstasy.

The addiction had brought 'evil' in me; late in performing solah, came in late to work with sleepy head, emotionally unstable, cursing and yelling.Losing in battlegrounds and raids were common thing for me until I learned how to attain good gear. At one point I owned my gurus. :P

I have a lot of WoW gurus, they are Ian, CC, Zimry, Victor and V's brother. They are the pros, know almost everything about WoW. We have a guild too called 'Hellstorm Fury Clan'. Atm, it's like a bank guild.

Owh ya, too long for an introduction. I play in US Nagrand server. My main toon is a level 80 Blood elf Hunter, Anasor. And my alt toon is his wife, Vispera, a priestess. The reason I stopped playing was not because I wanted to stop, it was because I'm running out of budget. Screw Ptptn the lousy education scheme.

From Rauf to Raulf

My friend asked me why some people call me Raulf. Was it because I love Go-Karting or like Ralph Lauren boutique. Actually back in my university years, some of my friends especially from Motherland of China and even Malaysian Chinese have difficulties in pronouncing my name, Ra'uf. It will sound like Lauf, because of the letter 'R'. My other local friends have no problem in pronouncing it.

To overcome this verbal error and misunderstanding, I started to accept people to call me by Raulf. I seek forgiveness from my parents for not using properly the name they assigned. But for the sake of communication I use Raulf as my nick. If can call me by Rauf, the Raulf with silent 'L'.

Since that, back in 2004, I started to register blogspot by the name Raulf.

Adjusting my body clock by challenging my will-power. Zombie to Bumble-bee!!

I had worked on-shift for about 30 months. Always had tough time to adjust my internal body clock after doing 2 weeks of night shift. The transition is the hardest time which reflect massively to my daily routines and not to say health too.

Somehow for this time, a day for recover became a day of self-challenge.

5pm Friday evening - I had an invitation from one of my best friend to guide them cycle at FRIM. I rejected it because the following day I have my friend's wedding and need to buy some ceiling fans, wall fans, ceiling lights and wall lights for the apartment that I have to manage. Since I'd rejected cycling invitation for the 3rd time and my body is keeping fats; this time while in zombie-like mode, I decided to please the invitation.

From Zombie to Bumble-bee! I have to get the fans and lights for the apartment before the shop closed. Aslahuddin and Shafiza recommended me TopTen at Puchong. I called TopTen to know what time it will close.

832pm (day before) - The shop closes at 9pm. With bumblebee mode, I drove from KL to Puchong using NPE. Reached TopTen at 9pm sharp and was the last customer. As claimed by my friends, it's true the price at TopTen is cheap; For Panasonic Remote Ceiling Fan, Retail RM319, i got it for RM270. That paying more than the gas and tol. The dome lights were cheap too about rm28/each, grab some of it. Unfortunately they didn't sell remote wall fan that I was looking for.

1015pm (day before) - Went to Jusco Midvalley since it closed at 11pm from Friday to Sunday. I found Pensonic Wall Fan for RM169 with 5% discount. I took some of those since it's cheap compared to Panasonic and KDK. Furthermore, it can be control manually without the remote control!

Treasure hunt completed! Returned back home, can't sleep till a time in the early morning.

645am - Wake up call by Feisal.

830am - Feisal, Jose, Ian, Mark were already waiting at Suasana Sentral, without further delay we shoot to FRIM. In 30minutes the convoy of 2 MyVis and a Honda reached FRIM.

915am - It was raining and the trail was slippery with extra mud. My T-Bolt doesn't come with Mud-Guards. After 3 months leaving FRIM, the trees and plants are now covering the path!

In the pictures above, my wife said that I look like a robot. One loop took us about 90 minutes. It was fun. No mishap during the trip. :) But leeches sucked off some of Ian and my blood! I don't like leeches.

1215pm - I reached home. While cleaning my bikes, I felt itchy behind of my right knee. OMG, leech!! Blood all over on the back of my knee till my foot. My wife became the nurse and do her magic.

Advise from my Bike Mentor, Azri Aziz, don't use water pressure gun on your bike, it will spoil the bike's mechanical parts.

3pm - Went to Taman Maluri for Zuhaida & Hamir wedding. Met old friends Four girls (except the bride) in the picture below are on the queue to get married. More 'Nasi Minyak' and free food awaiting :)

4pm - Site visit to my dad's apartment, supplying the new fans and lights. it's about 80% completed. I will come up with some pictures later! Come and visit in near future.

530pm - My wife asking me a favor to accompany her to Jalan TAR to get supply for her beading and sewing service. I don't like to be in crowded places, so I dropped her off at the back of Colosseum and planning to get some snack at SOGO (a shopping complex at Jalan TAR). My oh my, i spent 20 minutes in SOGO basement parking looking for parking and same think when going out!

730pm - Home sweet home.

8pm to 3pm (following day) - Rest in Peace.

Guess what? I'd calibrated my internal body clock to Helsinki shift hours!
